Looking after your custom suit.

If you're the proud owner of a custom suit or blazer from Bellington Estate, congratulations! You're now the owner of a one of a kind piece of kit that with great care, can last you a long, long time! Now as the saying goes, great suits come with great responsibility. Well, that’s not exactly how the saying goes but humor me. The point is, it's important to take care of your suit properly if you want it to last. So here are some simple pro tips on how to best look after your custom suit or blazer from Bellington Estate.

Firstly, let's talk about dry cleaning aka the devils cleaner. Ok, that’s a bit over dramatic but the point is, dry cleaning is great for removing stubborn stains and refreshing a really soiled suit, but it's not something you want to do too often. Dry cleaning can damage the fibers of the suit (or any natural fiber for that matter) and cause it to lose its shape and structure. So, unless your suit has a noticeable stain or odor (Geelong Cup punters I’m looking at you), try to avoid dry cleaning it as much as possible. Instead, spot clean any stains with a damp cloth and some mild soap. If you are really serious, invest in a decent garment steamer and give it a good steam from time to time. Think of it like a day spa for your suit. It’s the best way to get out any wrinkles, does wonders for the fibers, and will deodorize it to boot.

Secondly, let your suit rest. This might sound strange, but it's essential for the longevity of your suit. The natural fibers in your suit need time to rebound after being worn. If you wear your suit too often without letting it rest, the fibers will start to break down and lose their shape and start resenting you which I can sympathize with. So try to rotate your outfits between wears. If you wear your blazer or suit to work on Monday, hang it up and wear something else for a few days. This simple trick will give the fibers time to rebound and will help your custom suit go the distance.

Thirdly, invest in a good suit brush. A suit brush is a great way to keep your suit looking fresh and new. It's also a much gentler alternative to dry cleaning. Use your suit brush to gently remove any dust or debris that might have accumulated on your suit. Ideally something with natural fiber bristles that will get into the cloth without being overly harsh. This will go a long way to help keep your suit looking clean and fresh. Side note here. Keep your nasty, sticky, rolly, lint remover thingy away from your suits. Whilst it will pick some bits and pieces off, it will leave an unseen sticky residue on the fabric which then attracts more fluff. In a post covid world that is on the brink of who know what, we don’t need a lint perfect storm to tip us over.

Finally, please do your suit or blazer a solid and always hang it up properly. When you're not wearing your bag of fruit, make sure you hang it up on the hanger provided by yours truly in a well-ventilated wardrobe. This will help prevent wrinkles and will allow any moisture to evaporate. If you're traveling with your suit, invest in a garment bag to keep it protected. Again the fancy as Bellington Estate one you got with your suit/blazer will do the trick just nice.

So in conclusion, taking care of your custom suit from Bellington Estate is really quite simple. Just remember to avoid dry cleaning it too often, let it rest between wears, invest in a good suit brush (no sticky things), and always hang it up properly. By following these simple steps, you'll be able to enjoy your suit for literally years to come. And who knows, maybe someday you'll even pass it down to your children or grandchildren as a family heirloom. How cool would that be.
